Stay Sun Safe at the Beach with Tambi Renee

The beach is a great place to kick back, relax, and soak up the great outdoors – but it’s important to remember that you’ll also be soaking up UV rays! If you’re planning to spend time at the beach this summer, Tambi Renee has a few tips for staying safe.

Go Early or Go Late

Avoid being in the direct sun between 10am and 4pm. If you’re a morning person, that means laying out your towel bright and early and leaving once the sun reaches its peak. Alternatively, go to the beach in the evening and enjoy the cool sunset. Either way, you’ll protect your skin and avoid the crowds that tend to congregate during the hottest part of the day.

Cover Up

While you might want to show off what you’ve got with a skimpy bikini, consider wearing clothing of a little more substance when you’re at the beach during hotter parts of the day. Tightly woven fabrics can protect you from the sun’s rays. If you plan to be out for a while, think about bringing something to throw on over your swimsuit.

Protect Your Eyes and Face

The face can be especially sensitive to UV rays, so be extra careful. Wear sunglasses to keep your eyes healthy and reduce strain and consider a broad-brimmed hat to keep the sun off of your face and neck.

Sunscreen Wisely

Wear a high-SPF sunscreen – at least SPF 35. Apply it 30 minutes before you head out the door, not when you get the beach. After that, reapply your sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’re sweating a lot or are spending time in the water (even if you use a waterproof sunscreen). Make sure that your sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB spectrum rays.

Make Use of Shade

Mark out your spot with a big beach umbrella and enjoy the extra cool and shade. If you don’t want to lug around an umbrella to shield you from the sun, look for a pavilion or shady area of the beach.

How to Tan Safely by Tambi Renee

When the summer comes around, most of us want beautiful, radiantly bronze skin that will linger into the cooler months. Unfortunately, tanning can do a significant amount of damage to your skin, leading to short-term discomfort like burns and dryness, long-term degeneration due to premature aging, and even life-threatening conditions like skin cancer. Tambi Renee founded Body Glo Mobile Airbrush Tanning to give those who want that bronzed look an alternative to tanning beds or lying out on the beach. Here, Tambi Renee offers some of her tips on how to avoid beach tanning, and how to tan safely if you do decide to lay out in the sun.

Avoid Beach and Bed Tanning

Regardless of how careful you are, UV rays will damage your skin if you spend a significant amount of time out in the sun. While you can cut down on exposure with safer tanning practices, beach and bed tanning will never be as safe as airbrush tanning. “Home tanning” has gotten a bad reputation with good reason, as the results are often streaky, uneven, and unnatural-looking. Professional airbrush tanning, on the other hand, offers completely different results, allowing you to look like you just returned from a tropical vacation – without all of the accompanying damage to your skin cells.

Practice General Skin Wellness

If you do decide to tan with UV rays, start off by keeping your skin healthy in general, which will help it repair itself faster if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Moisturize and exfoliate regularly, drink plenty of water, and eat healthy foods to help maintain your skin’s natural oils and protect it against the elements.

Plan Your Tan

Spend time outside during the times of day when the sun isn’t at its absolute strongest. In general, avoid extended periods of sunning between 10am and 4pm. Not only will your skin thank you for it, but you may also be able to avoid some of the beach rush that often leads to crowding and traffic.

Protect Your Eyes, Face, and Lips

Invest in a good pair of UV-blocking sunglasses, as well as a broad-brimmed hat to keep the sun off of your face and neck. UV rays can easily damage your eyes, leading to pain and eventual vision loss, meaning that safe tanning isn’t just about your skin. While you may not think to put sunscreen on your lips, remember that the skin on your lips can burn and become damaged too, so use a high-SPF lip balm whenever you leave the house.

Stick to the Shade

A beach umbrella just might be your best friend. A large umbrella can help shield you from the sun’s rays, allowing you to enjoy the beach and still soak up some sun without being in the sun’s direct line of fire. Beach pavilions and shady areas can serve the same purpose if you don’t feel like lugging around a beach umbrella.

Wear High-SPF Sunscreen

Even with super high-SPF sunscreen, you will still tan. Avoid tanning oils at all cost and, instead, go for waterproof sunscreens that are chemical-free and easy on the skin. Do your first application 30 minutes before you arrive at the beach, not after you get there. Make sure to reapply the sunscreen every two hours, especially if you’ve been swimming or sweating.

Limit Your Exposure

Just a short amount of time outside will cause you to tan, so avoid spending all day outside if you can. Frequent, extended exposure to the sun will only heighten your chances of developing skin problems like premature aging and cancer.

Take Care of Your Skin Afterwards

After you leave the beach, moisturize and apply an after-skin product, such as aloe vera, to cool your skin and help rejuvenate it. Your skin will likely have some healing to do and these additional nutrients and moisturizers can help bring it back to full health as soon as possible.

Seek Out Alternatives

In the end, it’s impossible to have a “safe tan.” While you can make your tanning practices safer, any exposure to UV rays puts you at risk for developing skin illnesses and may cause your skin to look worse rather than more vibrant over time. If at all possible, avoid tanning in the sun and seek out an alternative like airbrush tanning instead.

Tambi Renee Committed to Beach Skin Safety

Tambi Renee, founder and owner of Body Glo Mobile Airbrush Tanning, is committed to educating her clients about skin safety at the beach.

Los Angeles, CA - Tambi Renee is pleased to announce her commitment to helping clients be skin smart and informed about the safest tanning practices possible. With the summer in full swing in Los Angeles, Tambi Renee has redoubled her efforts to educate her airbrush tanning clients about the risks of traditional tanning and what they can do to mitigate them.

“I see countless clients every year who have either damaged their skin in the past, or are currently damaging their skin from sun exposure,” said Tambi Renee, the founder and owner of Body Glo Mobile Airbrush Tanning. “Unfortunately, because tanning is so fashionable here in Los Angeles, many people will go to great lengths for a bronzed look. But it’s important to do so safely because, in the end, health is so much more important than anything else.”

First, Tambi Renee recommends relying on airbrush tanning rather than laying out at the beach for a tan. “There is really no such thing as a safe tan when it comes to UV rays, whether you’re soaking them up from the sun or in a tanning bed,” remarked Tambi Renee. “A UV-based tan, after all, comes from minuscule damage to the skin. And just one sunburn can drastically increase your chances of developing skin cancer. So the best way to tan safely is to use an alternate tanning method, such as airbrush tanning.”

For clients who choose to go to the beach or otherwise spend time outside during the summer, Tambi Renee highly recommends a water- and sweat-proof sunscreen with a high SPF, as well as sticking to shadier areas or putting up an umbrella whenever possible. “The beach is a great place to relax and have fun, but not the best place to tan,” advised Tambi Renee. “If you do decide to spend the day at the beach, try to go earlier in the day when the sun isn’t as strong, and consider sunglasses and a hat to protect your face, even if you opt to wear a bikini or other revealing clothing.”

Tambi Renee: Answers to Airbrush Tanning Frequently Asked Questions

Airbrush tanning is becoming a popular, healthier alternative to tanning salons and traditional tanning, but many people still have questions about the process and the results. Here, Tambi Renee, founder and owner of Body Glo Mobile Airbrush Tanning, answers some of her prospective clients’ most frequently asked questions.

Is Airbrush Tanning Really Safe?

Yes, it is! Unlike traditional tanning, airbrush tanning involves no UV rays, which are the main cause of skin issues caused by tanning such as discoloration, sunburn, and skin cancer. Instead of UV rays, airbrush tanning uses DHA, an FDA-approved ingredient, to turn the skin a deep golden brown color.

Will Airbrush Tanning Turn My Skin Orange?

Unfortunately, most consumers think of at-home tanning sprays and lotions when they think about airbrush tanning, and link airbrush tanning with the orange hue that those products are known for. Professional airbrush tanning is in a completely different realm. Because professional airbrush technicians use only high quality products and methods, your skin will not turn orange after an airbrush tan.

How Long Will My Tan Last?

It depends, but most clients’ tans last from 4 or 5 days up to two weeks. Your skin, activity level, and other products you use all factor into how long your tan will last.

How Can I Keep My Tan Looking Great?

Avoid products that contain exfoliating ingredients, wait at least 8 hours before showering or swimming after your tan application, and if you shave after your tan, make sure to use a sharp razor. When you swim after your tan, make sure to use a waterproof sunscreen to avoid additional wear on your tan.

Will Airbrush Tanning Protect My Skin?

No, airbrush tanning products do not contain any sun-blocking compounds. If you spend a significant amount of time in the sun with an airbrush tan, remember to apply sunscreen with a high SPF!

How Can I Prepare for My Airbrush Tanning Appointment?

Before your appointment, shower thoroughly and exfoliate to remove any lotions or makeups that might keep the airbrush solution from reaching your skin. Wear whatever you’re comfortable with for your appointment that will minimize your tan lines. If you are not wearing other nail polish, consider applying a clear coat to avoid picking up any color on your nails or nail beds, or ask your technician about creams you can use to protect your nails. If you plan to shave before your appointment, do so at least 8 hours beforehand.

Tambi Renee Cautions People about Plastic Surgery

Tambi Renee is not a stranger to cosmetic surgery but warns people to be cautious when they decide to have a procedure done.

Los Angeles, California - America is a very appearance conscious society. We have many notions about what beauty should look like. Even our notion about the perfect body shape isn’t very realistic. The perfect models in magazines are created that way thanks to photoshopping and image cropping. However, humans have strived for years to stay youthful looking for centuries.

Many fairytales caution about staying young forever. And searches for the “fountain of youth” led to many fruitless yet historic expeditions. Today, youthful looks can be maintained through a variety of surgeries and body alterations. Tambi Renee herself admits that she has had a number of small procedures done. Tambi Renee states, “I have been blessed with the minor things I have tried.”

Her admission comes from the number of stories that focus on procedures gone wrong. While she admits she’s had a number of minor things done, she admits that it isn’t without pain. “My rhinoplasty recovery had to be the worst,” admits Tambi Renee. And she doesn’t fault people for wanting to maintain a youthful appearance as they age.

While Tambi Renee sees nothing wrong with people using cosmetic surgeries to maintain a youthful look for longer than is naturally possible, she admits “it truly can go too far,” and she says people “need to be realistic in their expectations.” Tambi Renee sees the danger of surgery coming in when people don’t know when to stop. There are people who go overboard in their surgeries and start to look inhuman. They lose a human look because so much has been altered.

Tambi Renee cautions people who are interested in plastic surgery to shop cautiously. “Don’t shop by price,” says Tambi Renee “whether high or low go by who can do the best job for the procedure you want.” She continues to offer advice sharing that “one doctor might be able to do all procedures but you might get better results going to a doctor who is known for… whatever.”  Her point is to find the doctor with the best reputation for performing the procedure you want done.

About: Tambi Renee warns about the importance of knowing whom you should go to for plastic surgery.
