Reversing Type 2 Diabetes – Is it possible?

Well, in a word...YES!  But let me clear one thing up.  Don't confuse “reversal” with “cure” - because there is no “cure”.  What's the difference?  I knew you were going to ask...let me explain.

You got diabetes from one of three avenues – genetics, you lifestyle, or a combination of those two.  Once you get diabetes (and I'm talking type 2), you got it.  All you can do now is change some things in your lifestyle to “reverse” the disease, but when you stop living that “healthy” lifestyle...BOOM...your type 2 returns and sometimes is even worse! Here, let me give you a little more information.

When you read about Diabetes in general, the first thing you will come across is that it is a chronic and progressive disease – basically, a life sentence, once you are diagnosed with it. What doesn't immediately pop up is that type 2 diabetes is actually almost always reversible. Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong!

Well, for the doubters, let's have a look at how diabetes progresses. The typical cause of type 2 diabetes is obesity related, having the following characteristics.

•    High-calorie diet – particularly refined carbs
•    Weight gained around the mid-section
•    High insulin levels – causing increased weight gain
•    Body's resistance to insulin – causing an increase in blood sugar levels
•    Lethargic feeling – leading to inactivity
•    Hunger – leading to sporadic feeding and overeating
•    Beta cell damage – the body struggles to produce insulin and recognizable symptoms appear

From this, we see that type 2 diabetes is mainly caused by poor lifestyle choices. However, the good news for over the over 50% of American adults who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes is that it is completely reversible. Recognising that you have the power to reverse the disease is actually the first step to remission. The only way to sustain this change is through diet and lifestyle changes. Diabetes medications will not permanently reverse the disease. Actually, insulin is notorious for causing weight gain. Also, you may treat the symptoms associated with diabetes, such as lowering your blood sugar levels, but that will only make you feel like the disease is getting better when it actually isn't.

So, how can you reverse your diabetes?
The main feature in type 2 pre-diabetic and diabetic patients is that their bodies are filled with sugar. Yes, I said FILLED. Not only is there sugar in their bloodstream, but it is everywhere! When we start out – i.e. when we are born – our sugar levels are at a minimum. We then start eating all the wrong food. Sugary snacks, desserts and a whole lot of white bread. This continues for years and years until our bodies just cannot take it anymore. So what do you do about it?

1. Stop taking in all that sugar
Eliminate all the sugary foods and refined starches from your diet. The only benefit of sugar is it tastes good in your mouth. It no nutritional value and can thus be eliminated from your diet. Starches are simply long chains of sugars which are quickly absorbed into the blood.

2. Burn off all the sugar you have accumulated.
Committing to a regular workout schedule will help you burn off all that sugar. If you have a mostly sedentary lifestyle, sitting at a computer all day, take a ten-minute break every so often. Walk around your office block a couple of times or go up and down the stairs.

You can start your journey to getting rid of your type 2 diabetes today. Right now even! All without the heaps of cash you'd part with for medication or surgery.

Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Through Diet And Exercise

So, you are one of the millions who has been diagnosed with diabetes. Hi...ME TOO!  Welcome to the “club”. I bet that type “diabetes” was a word you definitely did not want to hear when you walked into your doctor's office.  All you know about it is that it's a chronic disease that will cause your feet and other body parts to rot. You console yourself, saying that you have many more years before that ever happens. But this is a life sentence. At least that's what you have read before.  Well, it's not all that...really.  There's actually good news about Reversing Type 2 Diabetes Through Diet And Exercise.

This article aims to tell you that you can easily reverse your type 2 diabetes. Not through surgery, not through dozens of pills and other medication, but through diet and exercise. Yes, you got me right. Diet and Exercise! It's that easy! Well, at least the concept is.

You need to resolve to change your lifestyle. Put away that bag of chips and soda, get off your behind and make a change! The only way to reverse type 2 diabetes and maintain it that way is by diet and exercise. Type 2 diabetes is caused by a resistance to insulin. This does not happen overnight.

Your body has gotten accustomed to bad food and no exercise. Type 2 diabetes is caused when you accumulate so much refined sugar in your body that it cannot handle the load. It produces more insulin which causes you to gain even more weight. At this point, you might say, “But I only drink diet soda.” Do not lie to yourself. Even the most “diet” of sodas have some form of sugar in them. High carb meals and wheat products like white bread and pasta are not exonerated from the list either. These are converted to sugar in your body only minutes after ingestion.

Some people say that you should slowly ease into a healthier diet, but I recommend going cold turkey on all the harmful foods you are eating. Diabetes may have eased itself into your body, but you do not want it there any longer than it should be. Here are a few tips:

•    Switch to eating a more plant and healthy protein-based diet.
•    Avoid ALL refined sugars.
•    Increase your intake of healthy Omega-3 fats such as salmon.
•    Choose fruits as snacks and desserts
•    Supplement your diet with useful minerals such as Magnesium and Chromium
•    Fast intermittently (you can find guidelines on how best to do this)

Exercise is also important for reversing type 2 diabetes. It increases your body's muscle mass, enabling it to control the functioning of insulin more. Exercise also helps you lose weight – obesity is highly associated with type 2 diabetes. If you have been inactive for a long time, start by taking a brisk walk in your neighbourhood. Always aim to break a sweat and bring your heart rate up to the point where you can barely speak as you workout (Make sure that it is within the safe range). With time, you will be able to walk longer and eventually do some high-intensity workouts.

Putting all of this into practice will make you feel better and you could reverse your type 2 diabetes in a matter of weeks!  No Kiddin!

What Are Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Symptoms?

Just how big is the diabetes problem worldwide?  I have heard of Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational diabetes, but what are diabetes mellitus type 2 symptoms and is it the same as Type 2 diabetes?

Over the past two decades, the number of people globally who suffer from diabetes shot up to 230 million worldwide - 30 million of them just in the U.S. Millions of lives have been lost and the ability of the health care system to deal with this disease is severely challenged while trying to manage this epidemic. This according to recent information provided by the International Diabetes Federation.

Diabetes is where your body can't store properly or use fuel for the energy the body needs. It's glucose - a form of sugar - that is the fuel that your body needs. It's from these foods that glucose comes from:  bread, cereal, pastas, rice, potatoes, some vegetables and fruits. Your body needs insulin to properly utilize glucose. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by your pancreas.

Essentially, Diabetes is identified as three basic types: Type 1, Type 2, Gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes will occur only during pregnancy.

Types of Diabetes Mellitus:  Diabetes mellitus is a clinical condition that has numerous causes. There are two classes of diabetes mellitus.  They are idiopathic and secondary.

The idiopathic form of diabetes falls into two main types; insulin dependent and non-insulin-dependent. The insulin-dependent form of diabetes mellitus (Type 1) is identified also as IDDM.  It's identified by the development of "diabetic ketoacidosis" (DKA) if not treated with a therapy of insulin. The Type 1 diabetes class is more likely developed childhood (why it is also called juvenile diabetes) and is caused by autoimmune destruction of b-cells found in the pancreas.

Insulin-Resistant (or non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus - Type 2 is identified also as NIDDM.  It's characterized by a persistent condition of hyperglycemia.  It rarely leads to ketoacidosis. Type 2 diabetes is usually diagnosed in adults age 40 and older.  It was previously known as adult onset diabetes. The Type 2 form of diabetes can be the result of genetic defects that are known to cause both insulin resistance and deficiency. The two main forms of type 2 diabetes are:

Late onset common with obesity and late onset not related to obesity.

Example meal plan for managing diabetes (type 1 or type 2):  Select foods that you like and satisfy hunger for you.  Be sure to include "carbs" (carbohydrate foods) with each meal or snack as needed to manage blood sugar (glucose) levels. Eat the biggest meal at lunch or for dinner.  You need to seek immediate medical attention if diabetic symptoms occur.  From time to time, and particularly Type 1 suffers - these can occur abruptly. It could lead to 'diabetic keto acidosis' (DKA).  This is a medical emergency. Symptoms of DKA include loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, unusually excessive urination, confusion and other altered states of consciousness all leading to diabetic coma. Please seek immediate medical attention if you see these symptoms occur.

The conclusion to take away from the question "What Are Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Symptoms?":  Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 and Type 2 Diabetes are virtually the same disease - with symptoms being the same.  Really the only difference is in the semantics of the name.
