In his book, Big Fat Diver, entrepreneur Alex Mackey shares his uplifting story of heartbreak, weight loss and becoming a college diver at age 43.

Torrance, CA - February 24, 2016: Those who believe that it is too difficult or late in life to begin following their passions, should read the personal story of Alex Mackey, who at the age of 40, after suffering a great loss began his journey into competitive college diving.

The book entitled Big Fat Diver, begins as Alex and his wife Janice give birth to their son Seth, who was born prematurely and spends his first five months in the NICU. Due to an unexpected circumstance, Alex’s life takes a turn for the worse and he becomes obese as he eats his way through the stress.

“Writing Big Fat Diver has been therapeutic in a way,” explained Alex Mackey. “It helped me realize that no matter what struggles we go through, things are eventually resolved. What shapes our character, is how we react to those challenges. I can be a better person by recognizing the trial and making a conscious decision to turn it into a positive rather than complain and ask myself, why me?”

Despite feeling heartbroken, Alex decides to turn his life around. He embarks on an inspiring weight loss journey, enrolls in diving classes at the local community college and is able to lose over 70 pounds. Alex soon develops a passion for diving and at age 40, decides he wants to join a local diving team and potentially make it to the California State Diving Championships.

A week after joining the local college diving team, Alex tore both of his rotator cuffs during a bad dive and had to undergo two major surgeries. His dream of competitive diving was put on hold for over two years but once fully recovered, Alex sought out the noted American Olympic Diver, Greg Louganis and an unlikely friendship developed.

Greg Louganis became Alex’s personal diving coach and helped land him a spot on the El Camino College Diving Team in January 2016. Alex participated in his first dive meet on February 20, 2016, where he won both the 3-meter board and 1-meter board competitions. Alex is currently striving to make it to the College State Diving Championships in May 2016.

“Winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at my very first meet feels like it validates this whole journey into diving at such a late age,” explained Alex. “I hope this can be an inspiration to others that it is never too late to do something great.”

Big Fat Diver takes readers through the inspirational and heartwarming story of Alex Mackey as he transforms from a fat soccer dad to a competitive college diver. The book is currently available on Amazon for Kindle eBook and iBooks, where readers have access to exclusive video segments and diving fails.

Aviation Industry Stands against Zika Virus by Implementing Cutting Edge Solution from Virus-Guard

Leader in Revolutionary Infection Control for the Aviation Industry Offers New Comprehensive Solution to Guard against Harmful Germs and Viruses

ISTANBUL – Virus-Guard, a leader in revolutionary infection control for the aviation industry, announced today the launch of its new nebuliser amid heightened concerns surrounding the impact of the Zika virus. Major aviation industry leaders, including Sharjah Aviation JV of Air Arabia, Flynas and Oman Air, are leveraging the company’s technology and disinfectant products to proactively implement infection control measures and protect both passengers and personnel.

Virus-Guard’s new nebuliser facilitates even, comprehensive and reliable surface disinfection for sustained effects. The lightweight device is easy to use and produces no moisture, eliminating the need to remove sensitive objects from the treatment area. Once the device is turned on, it can effectively disinfect aircraft within 9 to 25 minutes based on the aircraft’s size. Surfaces are disinfected for up to 10 days, providing protection against Ebola, Coronavirus, MERS, Zika virus and other dangerous germs, fungi, viruses and bacteria.

The nebuliser utilizes Virus-Guard’s proprietary non-alcohol-based disinfectant solutions. The solutions have been tested for their disinfecting efficiency, long-term anti-microbial effect and bio-compatibility and certified by leading organizations, including the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology, Fresenius Institut and Bioservice Scientific Laboratories. Additionally, the solutions are approved for Airbus and Boeing aircrafts.

“Airlines have gone into defense mode, even offering free refunds or rebooking for pregnant women as concerns over the Zika virus continues to grow,” said Alex Sahni, chief executive officer of Virus-Guard. “Our goal is to provide aviation leaders who operate in the affected areas with a proactive solution to keep passengers and personnel safe. The Centers for Disease Control is recommending enhanced precautions and our solutions offer our aviation industry clients an effective course of action. Using the nebuliser demonstrates their commitment to customer safety and service not only during this health crisis, but for the long term.”

Since its launch, Virus-Guard has helped transportation companies across the globe create safe environments for its customers and employees and set new standards in in-flight safety. The company specializes in easy-to-apply products, which can be used widely and don’t require specially trained personnel. Its new nebuliser further confirms its commitment to the improvement of hygiene and guaranteeing clean and safe environments for its clients.
